Has anyone used solar cells before when placing outdoor instrumentation units?

There's a contract I'm presuing which wants us to place test equipment in several places around a swamp. As you can guess, power will be a major issue for us and this is our first project that will be off the grid. What problems can I expect? It looks straightfoward. Low power instrumentation + Battery + Solar Cell + Waterproof case.
